West Edmonton Mall shooting Incident explained

At West Edmonton Mall’s parking lot on Monday night, an altercation involving gunfire unfolded between two distinct groups, leading to a minimum of three individuals sustaining injuries, according to the Edmonton Police Service’s official account. Addressing the media during a press conference on Tuesday morning, Acting Chief Darren Derko shared that, while no individuals deemed of interest have been identified, and no arrests have been carried out by law enforcement, the shooting incidents exhibit signs of being purposeful and directed.

Derko’s insight suggested, “Evidently, one group had been awaiting the arrival of a second group consisting of four males who were situated within the mall.” As the narrative continues, it’s noted that four men exited the mall and proceeded to their vehicle, at which point a white SUV pulled up alongside them and commenced firing.

As for the remaining three members of the initial group, they were transported to a hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.

At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Monday, the West Edmonton Mall was subjected to a lockdown, accompanied by the strategic deployment of tactical officers who undertook the process of evacuating the premises. The lockdown persisted for over two hours, concluding around ten o’clock when it was lifted. Acting Chief Darren Derko later revealed that law enforcement personnel subsequently uncovered a firearm within the shopping complex, believed to be linked to one of the shooters.
