The Graduate Admission Test in Engineering (GATE) is the qualifying exam for admitting students in the Masters of Engineering/ Technology courses in any of the seven IITs and Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore. The candidates every year participate in huge numbers in the concerned entrance exam. GATE Syllabus 2014:
For Civil Engineering:
Main Subjects- EM (Engineering Mathematics), Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Surveying etc
Engineering Mathematics: Calculus, Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, Linear Algebra, Probability &Statistics and Complex Variables etc
Mechanics, Steel Structure, Structural Analysis, and Concrete Structures etc
Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering
Water Resource Engineering:
Irrigation, Hydrology and Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics
Water Requirements, Noise Pollution, Air Pollution and Municipal Solid Wastes
Highway Planning and Traffic Engineering
Mapping Concepts, Map Projections and Measurement of Distance and Directions etc.
For Mechanical Engineering:
Main Subjects are- EM (Engineering Mathematics), Applied Mechanics and Design, Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences, Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering etc

Vibrations, Strength of Materials, Design, Theory of Machines, and Engineering Mechanics
Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences:
Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Applications and Thermodynamics
Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering:
