VMOU was first started its journey in the year of 1987, but thereafter in the year 2002 the day of the 21 St of September Government of Rajasthan changed the name of the University. From that day this university is known to us as Kota Open University. The idea behind formed the open university in this state of Rajasthan is to establish the distance education system in order to make people educated.
