The Kannada University is located in Hampi of South India. The place is historically important on account of various religions and kingdoms originating from the place. Established in the year 1991, the university was a much needed one in the state of Karnataka. The Government of Karnataka established this university by passing the Kannada University Act 1991for this purpose. The university provides admission in a number of courses available in the following main disciplines: Languages, Fine Arts and Social Sciences respectively.

The courses are available for the following subjects: Kannada Literature Studies, Kannada Language Studies, Dravidian Studies, Translation Studies, Manuscript logy, Women Studies, Sculpture and Paintings, Music & Dance, Visual Arts, Folklore Studies, History, Archeology & Ancient History, Epigraphy, Tribal Studies, Development Studies and Anthropology respectively. The university examinations for all the enrolled applicants in various courses are held twice a year in the months of June/ July and November/ December respectively.
