IISER Exam Pattern

The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) admits students in BS-MS Dual Degree, PhD and Integrated PhD degree programmes through various admission modes such as Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) and State and Central Boards. Those students who are willing to study in IISER may appear in any of the admission test and can get admission in the said programme.

Name of the Programme: BS-MS

IISER Aptitude Test Pattern-2014: 

The Aptitude Test conducted by IISER has Objective Type Multiple Type Questions that constitutes sections Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Each section carries 15 questions making total number of questions 60. The time limit to complete Aptitude Test is 3 hours. Each correct answer will fetch 3 marks while negative response will deduct 1 mark. However, no mark will be given for the question which is not attempted.

Sets, Relations and functions, Trigonometric Functions, Principle of Mathematical Induction, Inverse Trigonometric Functions, Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations, Linear Inequalities, Binomial Theorem, Permutations and Combinations, Sequences and Series

Conic Sections, Straight Lines, Introduction to Three Dimensional Geometry, Mathematical Reasoning, Limits and Derivatives, Statistics, Matrices, Probability, Determinants

Continuity and Differentiability, Integrals, Application of Derivatives, Applications of integrals

Differential equations, three dimensional geometry, Vectors, Linear Programming

PHYSICS:

Physical World and Measurement, Kinematics, Work, Energy and Power, Laws of Motion,

Gravitation, Properties of bulk matter, Motion of Systems of Particles and Rigid body,

Thermodynamics, Oscillations, Waves, Behavior of perfect gas and kinetic energy,

Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic effect of current and magnetism

Alternating Current, Electromagnetic Induction, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics

Atoms, Nuclei, Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter, Electronic devices, Communication Systems.

 CHEMISTRY:

Some Basic Concept of Chemistry, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Structure of Atom, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Hydrogen, The s-block Elements, The p-block Elements, Environmental Chemistry, The solid state, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface chemistry, Organic Chemistry – Some Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, General principles and processes of isolation of elements, The p-block elements, The d- & f-block elements, Coordination compounds, Haloalkanes and haloarenes, Alcohols, phenols and ethers, Aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids, Biomolecules, Polymers,  Organic compounds containing nitrogens, Chemistry in everyday life.

BIOLOGY:

Diversity in the living world, Cell structure and function, Structural organization in animals and plants,  Human physiology, Plant physiology, Biotechnology and its application , Reproduction, Biology and human welfare, Genetics and evolution, Ecology and environment .
