IFS Exam Pattern 2014 UPSC Paper Pattern
The Union Public Services Commission conducts the Indian Forest Service Exam every year under the competitive civil services exam. The candidates in order to get selected in the UPSC IFS Exam should prepare on the basis of the following paper pattern. There will be two papers namely: Prelims and Mains respectively. The candidates should qualify in both the papers which will be followed by Personal Interview.
The candidates selected will be called for Interview on the basis of merit list formed after the written exam.

Exam Pattern for UPSC IFS 2014:
Preliminary Exam:
There will be objective type paper with multiple choice questions in the exam. There will be two papers of 200 Marks each having questions in both the languages- English as well as Hindi. The questions on English Language Comprehension of Matriculation Level will be asked in English Language only and no translation will be provided for it.
Duration of Exam: two hours
Candidates who come under the Blind category will be given twenty minutes more for answering exam.
Main Examination:
The Main Exam of the UPSC IFS Exam consists of 6 papers on different subjects. The first two papers are for General English and General Knowledge respectively. The other four papers can be selected from the optional papers as chosen for this purpose from the following subjects:
Agriculture/ Agriculture Engineering/ Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Sciences/ Botany/ Chemistry /Chemical Engineering/ Civil Engineering/ Forestry/ Geology/ Mathematics/ Zoology/ Statistics/ Physics/ Forestry/ Mechanical Engineering respectively
The candidates cannot take the following combination of subjects: Agriculture and Agriculture Engineering; Agriculture and Forestry; Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences; Mathematics and Statistics; Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering/ Agriculture Engineering and Chemical Engineering/ Civil Engineering and Agriculture Engineering/ Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering or similar combinations

Pattern for Interview:
The Interview will be of 300 Marks for all the candidates held subsequently after the written exam –preliminary and main examinations.
The candidates selected in the Preliminary Exam of the Indian Forest Service Civil Services Exam shall apply online for the Main Exam scheduled to be held in the months of September/ October respectively.
